Association for Temperate Agroforestry (AFTA) 

Biennial Awards

 

 

Purpose:

The long-term goal is to recognize members and practitioners for their achievements in agroforestry.  AFTA awards enhance future programs and support continued interest in agroforestry practices.  The AFTA Board of Directors offers four awards, granted biennially.  The awards are awarded at each North American Agroforestry conference (NAAC).  Awards can be self-nominated or submitted by another.  Award winners are recognized during the biennial conference.

The following awards are available:

Outreach and Education Award         (AFTA members only)

Research Award                                 (AFTA members only)

Early Career Award                            (AFTA members only)

Practitioner or Producer Award          (AFTA member or non-AFTA member/organization)

Awards:

Outreach and Education Award:

An AFTA member that has made extraordinary accomplishments in the field of agroforestry outreach.  Relevant accomplishments include but are not limited to technical transfer, networking, communication, public engagement, student education, policy, international exchange. Nominees must demonstrate sustained service to agroforestry and leadership of impactful outreach programs.

Criteria:

Scope and innovation of agroforestry outreach programs in field and area of emphasis

Impacts clearly demonstrating meaningful change among agroforestry stakeholders

Engagement and networking beyond traditional agroforestry channels

 

 

Research Award:

An AFTA member that has made extraordinary accomplishments in the field of agroforestry research. Nominees will have made a significant scientific contribution to biophysical, economic, and/or social facets of agroforestry. Nominees must demonstrate sustained service to agroforestry and leadership of impactful research programs.

Criteria:

Scope and innovation of agroforestry research in field and area of emphasis

Impact clearly demonstrating influence on the theoretical and/or empirical understanding of agroforestry

Effectiveness of efforts to translate research for impacts on people, practices and policy

 

 

Early Career Award:

An AFTA member that has demonstrated extraordinary accomplishments in the field of agroforestry outreach or research. Applicants should have less than ten (10) years of experience. Nominees must demonstrate sustained service to agroforestry and leadership of impactful outreach or research programs.

Criteria:

Scope and innovation of agroforestry outreach or research programs

Impacts clearly demonstrating meaningful change among agroforestry stakeholders

Engagement and networking beyond traditional agroforestry channels

 

 

Practitioner or Producer Award:

This award is available to AFTA members or non-members including farmer, landowner, non-government organization, etc. The candidate must have made extraordinary accomplishments in the field of agroforestry application. Nominees will have made significant strides in applying agroforestry. Nominees must demonstrate sustained effort in applying agroforestry and leadership in the field.
